教学 is about much more than our disciplinary content. The learning environment we create has been directly correlated with learning outcomes: specifically, a student’s sense of belonging predicts motivation, engagement and achievement (Zumbrunn et al. 2014). This webinar series will provide a foundation for inclusive teaching practice.

An Introduction to Culturally Relevant Pedagogy

This webinar will introduce participants to how the implementation of a more inclusive, student-centered pedagogical approach can transform learning and promote more equitable educational outcomes through the creation of identity affirming learning environments. Dr. LD Ortis will discuss the theoretical framework of Culturally Relevant Pedagogy (CRP) and engage participants in a discussion of using the CRP framework in practice.

Critical-Inclusive Student 学习 评估

This webinar is focused on the development of a critical-inclusive assessment practice to assess student learning. The presenters will discuss their approach to inclusive assessment based on Saran Stewart’s Critical-Inclusive Pedagogical Framework (CIPF), which emphasizes sharing power with students, activating student voice, and engaging in dialogue with students. Participants will be introduced to the CIPF and learn how the presenters use the Framework to guide their own practice. 通过讨论 participants will gain a better understanding of how critical ideals can inform classroom assessment and allow for more flexible and responsive teaching.

Supporting Student Success with an Equity-Minded Syllabus

 The syllabus is often the first point of contact that our students have with us and 我们的课程. In this hands-on workshop, you will be taken through a step-by-step process that will allow you to reconsider your syllabus as a tool to support equity and inclusion. You will leave the workshop with an equity-minded syllabus that promotes student motivation and academic success.

Culturally Responsive 教学: Weaving Rigor and Relevance

Culturally Responsive 教学 (CRT) is an approach that challenges educators to recognize that, rather than deficits, students bring strengths into the classroom that should be leveraged to make learning experiences more relevant to and effective for them. Educators who embrace CRT set rigorous learning objectives and bridge what students need to learn with their lived realities and the issues they care about. 通过讨论 and reflection participants will explore their own teaching and set goals to prepare for or enhance their practice in culturally responsive teaching.
